Background of the Study
The agricultural sector is an essential part of Nigeria’s economy, and efficient supply chain management is critical for ensuring the availability of agricultural products, reducing operational costs, and improving profitability (Olawale & Musa, 2024). Supply chain strategies, which include sourcing, procurement, logistics, and inventory management, are integral to improving cost efficiency in agricultural businesses. In Bauchi State, where agriculture is a major economic activity, agricultural firms face challenges such as poor infrastructure, logistical inefficiencies, and unpredictable supply of raw materials, which often lead to higher operational costs.
Research indicates that effective supply chain management can reduce costs, improve delivery times, and enhance the overall competitiveness of businesses (Umar & Akinmoladun, 2023). Agricultural firms that embrace optimized supply chain strategies can reduce wastage, minimize transportation costs, and maintain better control over inventory. However, there is limited research specifically on how supply chain strategies impact cost efficiency in agricultural firms in Bauchi State, making this study crucial for providing insights on effective supply chain practices in the region.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of supply chain strategies in ensuring cost efficiency, many agricultural firms in Bauchi State continue to face high operational costs due to inefficient supply chain practices. These inefficiencies may be attributed to poor infrastructure, unreliable transportation systems, and lack of integration between suppliers and producers. Therefore, this study seeks to evaluate how supply chain strategies can be optimized to improve cost efficiency for agricultural firms in Bauchi State (Ibrahim & Abubakar, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on agricultural firms in Bauchi State and will examine various supply chain strategies to assess their impact on cost efficiency. Limitations include potential difficulty in obtaining accurate data from firms due to confidentiality concerns, and challenges related to evaluating the effectiveness of supply chain strategies due to variability in firm operations.
